Impact · K–12 Schools · Maharashtra

Less time writing. More time teaching.

Mentzi is being used by teachers across Maharashtra handling large class sizes, often 40–60 students per section, with no teaching assistants and minimal institutional support. The consistent feedback: lesson preparation that used to take 2–3 hours now takes under 10 minutes, without any loss of quality. Teachers are generating vernacular-first content aligned to the Maharashtra State Board curriculum and sharing quizzes directly with students via WhatsApp. The shift is measurable in how teachers describe their relationship to the job, less administrative, more human.

THE FULL STORY

How Mentzi was built,
chapter by chapter.

I

The problem

An Indian schoolteacher's day ends long after the last bell. Three hours of it, every day, goes to lesson prep: writing plans, setting questions, adapting English-medium material into the language the class actually thinks in. Multiply by 9.4 million teachers and you get one of the largest unpaid content-production workforces on earth.

II

The research

We sat in staff rooms before we wrote a line of code. What we heard: teachers don't want another portal, they want their evenings back. The output has to match the board, the grade, and above all the language. A Marathi-medium class doesn't need a translation of an English lesson; it needs a lesson conceived in Marathi.

III

The strategy

The wedge was prep time, not "AI in education." One number to move: minutes per lesson plan. Everything else, quizzes, progress tracking, parent updates, earned its place only after the core promise held.

IV

The design

The interface assumes a tired user on a modest phone. One input, "photosynthesis, Class 7", and a structured, editable plan comes back in under a minute. Devanagari-first typography where the user is; nothing that needs a manual.

V

The engineering

Original generation in ten-plus Indian languages, not machine translation. Curriculum mapping keeps every output aligned to CBSE, ICSE, and state board syllabi. Parent updates ride WhatsApp, so the parent side needs no app at all.

VI

The results

Lesson prep collapsed from 2–3 hours to under 10 minutes for teachers handling 40–60 students per section. 87% of active teachers report less daily stress, and, in their words, a job that feels less administrative and more human.

VII

What we learned

Vernacular isn't a feature, it's the product. Distribution in education is trust, transferred staff room to staff room. And a teacher will forgive a missing feature long before a wrong answer, accuracy budgets beat feature budgets.

Research

Why Indian EdTech has a teacher problem, not a student problem

Every major EdTech platform in India has been built for students. The teacher, the actual delivery vehicle for learning, has been ignored. Mentzi exists because fixing the teacher experience fixes learning outcomes.

Product

Vernacular-first AI: why translation is the wrong approach

Most multilingual AI products translate from English. Mentzi generates directly in the target language, because a translated explanation of a concept is structurally different from one written natively.

Impact

The 3-hour problem: what teacher prep time actually costs India

India has 9.4 million school teachers. If each spends 3 hours daily on prep, that is 28 million person-hours a day spent on content generation, content AI can produce in seconds.

FAQ

Common questions
answered honestly.

What subjects does Mentzi cover?

Mentzi currently covers Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, English, and Hindi for classes 5–12. Language-specific subjects are available for content generation in those languages. Expansion to more subjects is ongoing.

Which school boards does Mentzi support?

Mentzi is curriculum-mapped for CBSE, ICSE, Maharashtra State Board, Gujarat Board, and 8 other major state boards. The AI knows the syllabus for each grade and board, so generated content is always exam-aligned.

How is Mentzi different from BYJU's or Vedantu?

BYJU's and Vedantu are student-facing tutoring apps. Mentzi is a teacher tool. It doesn't replace the teacher, it removes the administrative and content-creation burden so teachers can focus on actual teaching.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Teachers can generate up to 15 lesson plans and quizzes for free before choosing a plan. No credit card required for the trial.

Does Mentzi work in regional languages?

Yes, this is a core feature. Mentzi generates content natively in Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, and Punjabi. Output is generated in the target language, not translated from English.

Can Mentzi be used by private coaching centers?

Absolutely. Mentzi is used by individual teachers, government schools, private schools, and coaching institutes. Institutional accounts with multi-teacher access are available.
